Inspire, Innovate, Ignite Campaign

Berkeley Carroll is the school it is today because of thoughtful strategic planning over the past two decades and the financial support of families and alumni, which made capital projects, acquisitions and investments in the school’s endowment possible.

Inspire, Innovate, Ignite is our current transformational $12,000,000 Capital Campaign to invest in endowment and facilities. It began five years ago when trustees, school leaders and parents with a vision for our school discussed how to better use our Lincoln Place campus to meet the demands of a 21st century education and best serve our students.

Its focus is to optimize our Lincoln Place building with improved, expanded space for learning and to grow our endowment to ensure the school’s long-term fiscal strength and provide greater resources for our students and teachers, including professional development and financial aid.

The campaign has raised $9.5 million so far and newly transformed our Lincoln Place campus with the new Beta Lab, sculpture studio, dedicated Upper School and Middle School libraries, science labs, and classrooms. These spaces support the student-centered, integrated approach to learning that Berkeley Carroll is known for and inspire our students and teachers every day.

In September 2018, we announced Inspire, Innovate, Ignite to the Berkeley Carroll community to invite everyone to participate in this transformational campaign. The announcement included the launch of the Robert D. Vitalo Fund for Growth and Innovation in Teaching. This endowment fund, honoring Head of School, Bob Vitalo, supports professional development opportunities for faculty and recognizes Bob’s dedication to teachers and teaching.

We invite you to learn more about Inspire, Innovate, Ignite and add your support to this important campaign for Berkeley Carroll. Your gift will help build the future!

Sincerely,
The Board of Trustees

Q+A

1) What is goal of the Inspire, Innovate, Ignite Campaign and what does the campaign support?

The Inspire, Innovate Ignite Campaign has a goal of $12 million, $10 million for
the construction and renovation of new facilities at Lincoln Place and a $2 million
addition to Berkeley Carroll’s endowment. (The school was able to complete the
facilities at Lincoln Place ahead of schedule and the new spaces were made available
to students in September 2018.)

2) How much has the campaign raised?

As of August 31, 2018, the campaign has raised $9.5 million from 95 donors.

3) Why is an increase in Berkeley Carroll’s endowment important?

Berkeley Carroll’s endowment provides the school with an additional source of
revenue. The endowment’s principal is invested and the school can then use the
interest income that is generated to help fund the cost of program development,
financial aid, and competitive compensation and professional development for
faculty.

4) How is supporting the Inspire, Innovate, Ignite Campaign different from supporting the annual fund or fundraising events?

Capital campaigns give Berkeley Carroll the ability to make strategic investments in
the school’s future. These investments can include acquiring or building new
facilities, launching a new program, or making an addition to the school’s
endowment.

Berkeley Carroll’s annual fund and fundraising events support the school’s
operating expenses and the school counts on the revenue that is raised each year in
planning its budget. Both the annual fund and fundraising events help offset the gap
between tuition and the full cost of a Berkeley Carroll education.

5) Will my support make a difference?

The campaign’s goal is built on the support of both leadership donors and gifts from
the broader school community including parents, alumni, grandparents, and friends.
Every gift makes a difference and contributes to the campaign’s success.
