Music

To complement the comprehensive music education they receive as part of our school-wide curriculum,  students enjoy opportunities to perform instrumental and choral concerts at the Sterling Place Performance Space and our Athletic Center throughout the year.

Lower School

Our approach to music education in the Lower School is experiential, aiming to provide students with meaningful and immersive musical experiences.

Music teachers are trained professionals in the Orff Schulwerk and Kodály approaches, which have proven to be effective and engaging methods for fostering musical creativity and comprehension. We believe that music is best learned through active participation and hands-on experiences. Students are encouraged to engage with music through singing, playing instruments, movement, and creative expression.

Middle School

In middle school, every student learns to play at least one musical instrument.

The instrumental music program at Berkeley Carroll is a core element of the middle school experience. Students study a wide range of musical styles and genres -- everything from the classical and standard repertoire to contemporary music.   Learning a musical instrument not only teaches students a new skill, but also builds community through creative expression.

Upper School

When students reach the Upper School, they are given the opportunity to choose if and what music classes they would like to participate in.

Between Jazz Ensemble, Orchestra, Choir, and our very own rock band course, Studio Ensemble, and more, students are able to  continue what they love and follow their musical passions.
