Visual Arts Welcomes Artist-in-Residence Daniell Alhassid

The Visual Arts Department is excited to welcome Danielle Alhassid, a Brooklyn-based artist, as this year's Artist-in-Residence. Alhassid will spend time visiting Middle School classes and developing two original art projects during her residency at BC.

Her project centers on birdwatching and early animation techniques, inspired by the birds found around the school and building on her ongoing research project, The Language of Birds. The work will take shape in two parts: a two-channel video installation and hand-printed wallpaper inside the school, and a series of ceramic bird feeders embedded with text, to be placed on the roof terrace or in the garden.

Along the way, Alhassid will lead students through hands-on workshops exploring how movement emerges from stillness, including building handmade zoetropes and flipbooks. Student work will be collected into a shared "moving image library.”

Alhassid holds an MFA from Hunter College and a BFA from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam. Her work has been shown at the Brooklyn Museum, the Amsterdam Museum, and the Holocaust Museum Amsterdam, among other venues, and she's received fellowships including the Vermont Studio Center residency and NYFA's Immigrant Artist Mentoring Program.
