Upper Schoolers Bring Heart to Lower School Spanish Class

Upper School Spanish students visited their second grade buddies for a special Valentine-themed language exchange.

Gathered together in Lower School classrooms, students explored the themes of love and friendship, en español. Upper School students led conversations and activities in Spanish, guiding their younger peers as they practiced vocabulary and dialogue related to family, friends, and the things they care about most.

Together, students wrote and illustrated Valentine hearts filled with words and drawings representing people and passions they love. From familia and amigos to favorite hobbies and pets, the activity encouraged authentic language use in a joyful and meaningful context.

The visit offered second graders an exciting glimpse into what their Spanish studies can grow into, while Upper School students strengthened their own language skills through conversation and mentorship. The experience also gave older students the opportunity to revisit the classrooms where many of them first began their own Spanish language journeys.

By combining language practice with cross-divisional connection, the project reinforced Berkeley Carroll’s commitment to community, collaboration, and joyful learning at every age.
