Upper School Theater Presents Admissions

Congratulations to Berkeley Carroll’s Upper School Theater Department on their powerful production of Admissions, an original play developed in collaboration with playwright Sinead Daly.

A Brooklyn-raised and Los Angeles–based playwright and screenwriter, Daly graduated from Yale University, and her plays have been developed and staged at renowned venues such as Ars Nova, Ensemble Studio Theatre, and Naked Angels. Beyond the stage, Daly is also an accomplished television writer and producer, with credits on series including The Summer I Turned Pretty and Tell Me Lies.

This project began with conversations between Daly and Berkeley Carroll students, whose reflections and writing helped inspire the play’s first draft. As the script evolved, students continued to provide feedback and explore the story through thoughtful rehearsal work, digging into the motivations and inner lives of characters navigating a mysterious and high-stakes selection process.

It is always a joy to bring students into the creative process and to offer them material that allows them to play characters close to their own age and identity while speaking to the moment we are living in. Being part of the development of a new play is a rare opportunity even in the professional theater world. These students helped shape this piece in meaningful ways, and their imprint will live on in whatever life the play has in the future.

WT McRae - Director of Theater

Set in a near-future world filled with uncertainty, Admissions follows a group of teenagers gathered for a life-changing opportunity, but no one knows exactly what is being measured or who will ultimately be chosen. As they wait, tensions rise, alliances form, and deeper questions emerge about identity, ambition, and what it means to compete.

The result was an amazing performance that showcased the talent and dedication of the entire cast and crew.

We are incredibly proud of the students and faculty who brought this challenging and compelling production to life.
