Upper School Gets Colorful for Holi

The forecast wasn't exactly promising. But the rain held off long enough for the Berkeley Carroll rooftop to become a canvas.

The Upper School, in partnership with the school's Asian American and Pacific Islander Student Association (AAPISA) hosted a vibrant celebration of Holi, the Hindu festival of colors, love, and the arrival of spring. And true to everything Holi represents, it was joyful, communal, and impossible to forget.

Before heading to the roof, students had the opportunity to learn about the rich history and meaning behind the festival, one that marks the triumph of good over evil, the end of winter, and the beginning of renewal. It's a celebration that has been observed for centuries across South Asia and around the world, and one that carries deep cultural and spiritual significance for many in the BC community and beyond.

Then came the colors.

Students gathered on the Lincoln Place rooftop to take part in the celebration, throwing and sharing colors in the tradition that makes Holi one of the most recognized and beloved festivals in the world. Delicious samosas added another layer of culture and warmth to the occasion.

Events like this one are at the heart of what makes Berkeley Carroll special. They invite the entire school community to learn, participate, and celebrate together, and they remind us that the diversity of experiences, traditions, and identities at BC isn't just something we acknowledge. It's something we celebrate, loudly and colorfully.

A special thank you to Gurleen K. '26, a senior and one of the leaders of AAPISA, whose vision and initiative brought this celebration to campus. Events like this don't happen without students who care enough to make them happen, and Berkeley Carroll is better for it.
