UnityFest Brings the Berkeley Carroll Community Together in Celebration of Culture and Connection

On Saturday, February 28, more than 400 members of the Berkeley Carroll community gathered for the school’s annual UnityFest—a joyful celebration of culture, connection, and community. This year’s event featured a vibrant Lunar New Year celebration and was organized by the Parent Association’s Mosaic and AAPI groups in partnership with the Office of Equity and Inclusion.

Families came together to enjoy performances, hands-on activities, and cultural traditions from around the world. The energy throughout the day reflected the warmth and collective spirit that defines Berkeley Carroll.

Guests experienced the excitement of a traditional lion dance, participated in games and crafts, and enjoyed a wide range of performances, including K-Pop, African dance, drumming, yoga, and Double Dutch. Students and families also joined in creative activities such as painting the BC mascot, Roary the Lion.

A wide array of food from across the globe brought families together to explore cultural traditions together, with dishes representing Africa, the Caribbean, Asia, South Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, Europe, the United States, and more.

“This event is our favorite because it brings together all of our families in celebration of community, culture, and heritage,” said Mosaic Co-Chairs Craig Colfelt and Zoe Waltrous. “It was especially meaningful to partner with our AAPI parent group this year—the Lunar New Year celebration was a wonderful highlight.”

UnityFest reflects Berkeley Carroll’s commitment to cultivating understanding, empathy, and connection through shared experience. Each year, the event creates space for families to celebrate traditions, learn from one another, and strengthen the bonds that make the school community so vibrant.
