MS Musicians Close Out the Year in Style

On Thursday, May 21, Middle School musicians welcomed families to the Marlene Clary Performance Space for the Spring Orchestra and Jazz Ensemble Concert, a celebration of a year's worth of hard work, musical growth, and, for the 8th graders, a meaningful farewell to their Middle School years.

The concert featured the 5th/6th and 7th/8th Grade Orchestras, directed by Kate Mollica, and the Jazz Exploration Ensembles, with Christian Robinson and Kathrine Cooke. Chamber groups drawn from within the orchestras also took the spotlight, giving smaller configurations of musicians a chance to shine.

The concert was hosted by the 8th grade class, who brought the confidence to the stage they have been developing all year, performing numerous featured roles throughout the evening.

The program covered impressive stylistic ground, moving from classical baroque to contemporary numbers from La La Land, then from jazz standards to Stevie Wonder. It was a range that spoke to the versatility and ambition of BC's Middle School music program.

Congratulations to all of our Middle School musicians, and a special thank you to Ms. Mollica and Mr. Robinson for another extraordinary year of music-making.
