Middle and Lower School Connect Over Books and Spanish

Recently, Berkeley Carroll’s 6th Grade Novice Spanish students crossed divisions to visit 4th graders in the Lower School for a Book Club collaboration.

Earlier this year, both classes began the school year reading the same Spanish-language book. As a culminating project, students designed original book jackets en español, each featuring a written summary of the story, reflections on their favorite parts of the novel, and a creatively illustrated cover inspired by the text.

Then the two grades came together to share their work and discuss their ideas entirely in their target language. Sixth graders practiced their conversational skills and took on leadership roles, while fourth graders enthusiastically responded, asked questions, and compared interpretations of the story.

The collaboration was a great example of cross-divisional learning in action. Beyond strengthening vocabulary and comprehension, students built confidence, community, and a shared love of storytelling.

¡Qué orgullo! We are so proud of our students for embracing the challenge and celebrating their learning together.
