Ita Vero! BC Latin Students Shine on the National Latin Exam

Before Spring Intensives took students across the city and across the world, many of them sat down for a very different kind of challenge, the National Latin Exam. The results are in, and we couldn't be prouder.

This year, Berkeley Carroll Upper School Latin students across all three levels, Introduction, Beginning, and Intermediate, took the nationally administered exam, and a remarkable number came away with honors. One student, Jake P. '27, earned a perfect score on the Intermediate Latin Exam, a truly exceptional achievement.

What makes the National Latin Exam particularly meaningful is its philosophy: students aren't ranked against one another. Instead, each student is evaluated solely on their own performance, with the goal of fostering a genuine sense of accomplishment and a deeper love of Latin language and culture. It's a spirit that fits naturally at Berkeley Carroll, where we believe every student's growth is worth celebrating on its own terms.

This year's award winners are:

Introduction to Latin (Latin 1)

Gold medal, summā cum laude: Eme H. '29

Silver medal, maximā cum laude: Alex F. '29, Octavia L. '29

Magnā cum laude: Hugo T. '29

Gold medal, summā cum laude: Axel K. '28, Sam v. K.-H. '28

* Jake P. earned a perfect score on the Intermediate Latin Exam.

Congratulations to every student who sat for the exam this year. Awards or not, every Latin student brought their best to the page, and that effort, in the finest tradition of the NLE, is something to be proud of.

Optime factum, Lions.
