We are thrilled to congratulate Lily Dodd, current BC After School Mentor, on the publication of her debut middle-grade novel, The Last Ember: The Aerimander Chronicles, Book 1, released on November 18 to a starred review from Kirkus.

Lily (publishing as Lily Berlin Dodd) will celebrate her launch tonight, November 18, at Books of Wonder in Manhattan, where she’ll be in conversation with author Jorge Aguirre (Monster Locker).

Her novel invites readers into a richly imagined world filled with dungeons, crime syndicates, dragon-like creatures, and razor-sharp humor. The story follows two unlikely young heroes, who unexpectedly cross paths over what appears to be an explosive mineral…but turns out to be much more. Their adventure brings them face-to-face with danger, unlikely friendship, and an exceptionally slow getaway pony named Gourd.

Fans of The Princess Bride and Terry Pratchett’s work will devour this series opener, thanks to the lush worldbuilding and wry humor permeating every page. - Kirkus Review
