BC's Spring Dance Concert Moves Us

Middle and Upper School students took the stage of the Marlene Clary Performance Space for two sold-out performances of the Berkeley Carroll 2026 Spring Dance Concert, a program that showcased the full range of our students' artistry, moving between musical themes and styles with seamless fluidity.

Under the artistic direction of Ms. Penelope McCourty, seven ensembles performed: 5 & 6 Dance Explorations, Dance 7, Dance 8, Dance Repertory, Intermediate Dance Repertory, Advanced Dance Repertory and BC Dance Ensemble. Each group presented works choreographed by Ms. McCourty in close collaboration with the dancers themselves.

The program covered impressive ground. Advanced Dance Repertory opened with Fields of Green, invoking the legacy of Martha Graham; Dance 8 brought introspective weight to The Anatomy of a Memory; Dance 7 brought the heat with Delhi Swings; and Dance Repertory and Intermediate Dance Repertory together delivered the sweeping, two-part Nina Simone Suite

The second half belonged to the students, featuring an Independent Study solo by Kyla S., directed by Amber Thomas, a solo danced by Juliana M directed by guest choreographer Amanda Carnesecchi, followed by a run of student-choreographed works that put BC dancers fully in the creative driver's seat.

The show closed with a full-ensemble finale, every dancer in the room together in community, which is exactly what it takes to pull off a performance like this. Thank you to our remarkable student performers, performing arts faculty, dedicated staff, and the audiences who filled every seat.
