BC Celebrates the Upper School at Awards Night

On a celebratory evening that touched every corner of Upper School life, Berkeley Carroll recognized students across all three pillars of the school's mission, academics, arts, and athletics, at the 2026 US Awards Ceremony.

Lion Award

Lion Award recipients are nominated by their coaches at the conclusion of each season. Each recipient has made valuable contributions to their respective team by demonstrating some or all of the following qualities: positive attitude, perseverance, team spirit, athletic proficiency, and leadership.

Dick McGrath Award for Commitment and Dedication

Named in honor of retired Director of Athletics Dick McGrath — a passionate history teacher, tireless advocate for the well-rounded athlete, and someone who believed deeply in holding athletes to the highest of standards — this award recognizes students who have demonstrated leadership, commitment, and dedication to one or more teams during their time at Berkeley Carroll. These students have served as pillars for their teams and modeled leadership for others to follow.

CUM LAUDE SOCIETY

Founded in 1906, the Cum Laude Society is dedicated to honoring scholastic achievement in secondary schools. Modeled after Phi Beta Kappa, the society has grown to 382 chapters. Each chapter may elect up to 20% of a given class with an outstanding academic record — half at the end of the junior year or during the senior year, and the remainder at the end of the senior year.
