Award-Winning Author Karina Yan Glaser Visits BC's 3rd and 4th Graders

Berkeley Carroll's 3rd and 4th graders recently had a very special visitor: Karina Yan Glaser, the award-winning author beloved by young readers everywhere for the Vanderbeekers series and her most recent book, The Nine Moons of Han Yu and Yuli, a Newbery Medal Honor recipient!

Glaser shared about her writing process, giving students a rare peek at how a story goes from idea to finished book. She delighted the room with photos of her many animal friends that have sparked her imagination and found their way into her pages.

Glaser shared that one of her favorite parts of writing is the excuse it gives her to dive headfirst into topics she wants to learn more about. When a story called for baking, she didn't just read about it, she went out and visited New York City bakeries, tasting her way through the research. Yum!

Glaser's visit was a wonderful reminder that storytelling starts with curiosity, about animals, about people, about the world just outside your front door. For young readers just beginning to discover their own love of books and writing, it was a powerful message.

Berkeley Carroll extends a warm thank you to Karina Yan Glaser for so generously sharing her time, her stories, and her passion for reading and writing with our students.
