Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Grand Opening of 703 Carroll. As I shared last night, this building adds to our school’s footprint and to its story, providing lasting purpose-built spaces in which our students will learn, play, and grow as critical, ethical, and global thinkers.

Over the past year, our leadership team, in partnership with current and past families, faculty, staff, alumni, and trustees, engaged in a thoughtful process aimed at articulating who we are and who we are becoming. This collaboration resulted in the creation of a shared language for telling Berkeley Carroll’s compelling story. I am proud to share the premiere of our reimagined school narrative, As You Are and Will Be. This video lifts up the habits of mind—curiosity, empathy, resilience, and discernment—that animate rigorous and joyful learning across our classrooms, laboratories, studios, stage, and courts.

At Berkeley Carroll, rigorous academics and a warm, nurturing community are not in tension; they are the complementary conditions that allow transformational learning to flourish. Our students are asked to think critically and creatively, and they are challenged and celebrated by educators who know and support them as they delight in discovery, seek and listen to multiple perspectives, and make responsible choices as members of a community.

Looking ahead, we are excited to share more with you: a redesigned website launching later this fall, an ambitious Annual Fund goal of $1.6 million to fuel the year ahead, and the beginning of strategic planning conversations through which to chart our future. I look forward to our continued collaboration, conjoining our vision and support for Berkeley Carroll as we work to shape all we are and all we will be—together. 

In a world marked by uncertainty, Berkeley Carroll remains an institution to champion: a place where young people learn to think deeply, deliberate carefully, and engage thoughtfully. As You Are and Will Be is our invitation and it accompanies our promise—to every learner, educator, and family at Berkeley Carroll—that we will continue to tirelessly devote our energy and our effort to challenging and nurturing students steeped in the habits of mind that will serve them not only here at Berkeley Carroll but into a boundless future.
