At Berkeley Carroll, curiosity is a part of everything we do.

Learning by Doing

Our STEAM initiative (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math) empowers students to explore, invent, and create — connecting ideas to the real world.

At every grade level, STEAM at Berkeley Carroll means hands-on learning. Students design, prototype, and refine their work, learning that creativity, persistence, and critical thinking drive discovery. They don’t just study the world. They build it!

Inspired by Imagination

Lower School: Think, Plan, Do, Review

Our youngest learners begin their STEAM journey through the BC Design Process, Think, Plan, Do, Review, a hands-on cycle of exploration and reflection that builds creative confidence.

  • Teachers collaborate across disciplines to design immersive, integrated projects.

  • Students learn coding, engineering basics, and design thinking.

  • Every project celebrates curiosity, teamwork, and problem-solving.

Middle School: Designing Solutions

As students grow, they take on increasingly complex challenges — exploring big questions through creativity and research.

  • How can we improve access to clean water?

  • What makes food both healthy and affordable?

  • How can we make New York City greener and more beautiful?

These projects cultivate empathy, innovation, and real-world problem-solving — skills that prepare students for a changing world.

Upper School: Innovating for Impact

In the Upper School, students dive deep into advanced coursework and independent research across Engineering, Computer Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Math.

  • The 2,000-square-foot Beta Lab provides space for prototyping, robotics, and long-term projects.
  • Students in the Science Research & Design Program pursue original research and bring their ideas to life.
  • Collaboration, experimentation, and reflection define their approach, preparing them to lead in the 21st century.

Spaces That Inspire

Across our campus, flexible learning spaces invite students to explore and innovate. Whether in the Beta Lab, an art studio, or a classroom maker space, inspiration is built right in.
