Libraries and Technology

The world of technology is changing faster than ever, and the quickening pace can make technology instruction seem daunting.

At Berkeley Carroll, we strive to counter this by helping students and faculty develop the skills to use many different types of digital resources, the means to choose the best tool to solve a problem, and the ability to adapt confidently to new technology.

BC Device Initiative

These devices enhance many of our curricular initiatives, helping our students collaborate, use digital research resources, and synthesize and display findings in presentations.

  • K-4: In the Lower School, students use iPads in developmentally appropriate ways as they learn the basics of the digital world and internet research.
  • 5-6: Middle School students master the iPad in 5th and 6th grades, and
  • 7-8: move onto ChromeBooks for 7th and 8th.
  • Upper School: Students are given the option of using their own device or a school-issued MacBook Air.

Lower School Libraries: Where the Adventure Begins!

Our youngest readers have vibrant library spaces designed just for them!

712 Carroll Street Library (PreK & K)

  • This bright, top-floor haven is stocked with books perfect for our youngest explorers.

  • It's a cozy spot where students, teachers, and parents frequently visit to pick out their next great read together!

701 Carroll Street Library (Grades 1–4)

  • This library is reimagined as a series of flexible, smaller spaces called "Hubs," stocked with an amazing collection of books, classroom reading sets, and both digital and hands-on resources.
  • Need a quiet corner? The Hubs offer great spaces for independent work or group projects!
  • Don't miss the STEAM Hub! Where students design, build, and innovate using everything from cardboard to robots.
