About the Gina Curry Speaker Series

The Gina Curry Speaker Series honors Ms. Curry's outstanding, dedicated, and longtime leadership of the Parent Association's Equity and Inclusion Committee, Mosaic, before relocating to North Carolina in 2021. Ms. Curry was consistently an impetus of important, relevant, and necessary conversations about diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging at BC during her time at the school. This series hopes to spark the important conversations about belonging, like the ones that Ms.Curry championed with energy, empathy and honesty during her time at BC.

Dylan Marron's Biography

Dylan Marron is an IFP Gotham Award & Drama Desk-nominated writer, performer, and video maker. He wrote for the Emmy-nominated third season of Ted Lasso (WB/Apple+), including being the writer on-set for the entire production in London. And now Dylan has returned for Ted Lasso’s highly anticipated upcoming fourth season! He is the voice of Carlos on the hit podcast, Welcome to Night Vale, an alum of the New York Neo Futurists, and the creator of Every Single Word (Tumblr’s “Most Viral Blog” of the year; Shorty Award Nominee), a video series that edits down popular films to only feature the works spoken by people of color.

As a writer and correspondent at Seriously.tv, Dylan created, hosted, and produced Sitting in Bathrooms with Trans People, Shutting Down Bullsh*t, and the Unboxing series. He hosts and produces Conversation with People Who Hate Me, a podcast where he calls the people behind negative comments on the internet. It was selected as a Podcast Pick by USA Today and The Guardian, named “the timeliest podcast” by FastCompany, and won a Webby Award. The third season debuted in 2022 on the TED Audio Collective. Dylan also created quarantine-era podcast Small Triumph Big Speech, where “everyday accomplishments are celebrated with big over-the-top- speeches.” The podcast raised over $25,000 for domestic workers and bail funds. Dylan’s new podcast on TED Audio premiered in the summer of 2023 -- The Redemption of Jar Jar Binks. Many know that Star Wars actor Ahmed Best, aka Jar Jar Binks, faced years of hate after the 1999 release of The Phantom Menace, but it turns out, that was just the beginning of the story. In this podcast, host Dylan Marron dives into what really happened a long time ago *and* what it can teach us today about online backlash, and has received many rave reviews.

Dylan is also known for his incredibly powerful TED Talk titled “Empathy is Not Endorsement,” which began his frequent collaborations with TED. His debut book Conversations With People Who Hate Me, a book about empathy on the internet, difficult conversations, and wielding softness as strength, was published by Atria Books, a division of Simon & Schuster, in March 2022.
