Physical Education

High School Students Dancing - The Berkeley Carroll
The philosophy of the Upper School Physical Education Program is directly related to the School's mission and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The program fosters the same values of inclusion, integrity, respect, responsibility, and participation that are embodied in the classroom.

The goal of Upper School Physical Education is to instill and cultivate in each student a love of physical activity.  Students are provided  an opportunity to engage in a variety of sports, recreation, fitness, and team-building units and is focused on building physical literacy and preparing all students for life-long physical activity.

Students may choose from a variety of physical education electives including but not limited to: strength & conditioning, intramural basketball, recreational swimming, PE games, cycling, martial arts, and yoga. By exposing students to various skills and activities, we hope to develop life-long lovers of physical activity, sport, and recreation. The lessons learned from participation in physical education are invaluable and help in the development of self-esteem and self-confidence in our students. We aspire for all students to be physically literate. Physical literacy is the ability, confidence, and desire to be physically active for life. (SHAPE America, 2015)
