Berkeley Carroll gave me the academic skills and the confidence I needed to succeed in college. It’s a special community — the faculty, staff and students are all connected in a rare, organic way.

When I arrived at Yale University I was more prepared academically for college than I ever could have expected. It was a smooth transition, especially in terms of writing. English was my favorite subject at BC — I took classes on personal essay and poetry that I still talk about. I majored in English and my greatest strength was being able to write well in so many different ways.

In my sophomore year of college I co-founded a theater group with one of my best friends. It was a crazy experience and everything was in our hands. I wouldn’t have had the confidence to do this without the leadership skills I developed at BC in the theater program, on the speech and debate team and on Reflections, the school’s literary magazine. Berkeley Carroll gives everyone room to explore their passions and the opportunity to rise into a leadership role.

I knew the majority of the 52 people in my graduating class for the entire 12 years I was at BC; we got to know each other really well. That’s what I miss most about the school — how small and tight-knit it is.
