BC FACULTY MEMBER PRESENTS AT NATIONAL MUSIC CONFERENCE
Congrats to Middle and Upper School Director of Bands Christian Robinson who presented at the 2022 NAfME National Conference- an event that fosters collaboration among music educators, researchers, and program leaders in the world of PreK-12 and higher education.
Christian’s presentation, “I Lost My Wind Ensemble . . . And Saved My Music Program” details his process of starting Jazz Studio Ensemble at Berkeley Carroll as a space for students for whom typical music ensembles may not resonate. He shared the benefits of a non-traditional ensemble for students, and how he has navigated the challenges of programming concerts while giving students more freedom of choice in their music education. |

SENIOR SPEAKERS (PART I)
Congrats to Senior Speakers, Serafina H., Laurence N., Luke K., and Ruthy F.! Serafina shared how accepting and adapting to change can be difficult, and how nostalgia can actually be a useful tool in holding onto our fond memories as comfort when we encounter uncomfortable change. Laurence used an AI generator to demonstrate how technology can never compare to the uniquely human experience of storytelling, and reminded audiences that our most valuable tool is our own voice.
Luke talked about how differences in learning styles do not have to be viewed as negative, and how a tendency to get sidetracked into “random” projects has actually led Luke to major accomplishments and successes. Ruthy spoke about how participating in dance had been tremendously important and beneficial to Ruthy’s time at BC, and looks forward to continuing with dance in college to make new friends and build a new community. |
SENIOR SPEAKERS (PART II)
Congrats to our second round of Senior Speakers, Lola P., McKenna D., and James Z.! Lola shared with the audience what it’s like to experience a childhood in Switzerland- unconventional and filled with lots of independence and adventures that Lola is grateful to have had growing up.
McKenna talked about the pandemic lockdown being the thing that ultimately led to fostering a close bond with a sister, something the two of them could have never imagined happening when they were growing up. James warned the audience about the pervasiveness of misinformation on the internet through a creative experiment- traveling to Times Square and demonstrating how easily people could be persuaded to sign a petition on completely made-up pretenses.
