BC JUNIOR NAMED A WINNER OF GETTY MUSEUM INTERNATIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION
Congrats to Brooke E. ‘24 who is one of 20 winners of an international photography competition by the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles and the nonprofit design lab Amplifier. The museum received more than 1,660 submissions to ”Reconnecting with ____,” which invited artists ages 13-19 “to consider, inspire, and reflect on social justice issues that matter to teens.” Photographers were encouraged to reflect on their own lives, consider the state of the world, and inspire others through their unique artistic expressions.
The winning submissions were transformed into Amplifier-style artworks and are being shown in a special Getty Museum exhibition, “Unshuttered: Reconnecting with ____” which runs through next month. |
8TH GRADERS PRACTICE TEAM-BUILDING ON RETREATS IN THE GREAT OUTDOORS
8th graders have taken to the great outdoors on team-building, bonding retreats that combine fun and collaborative learning! Broken out into smaller groups, students have had the opportunity to hike at Bear Mountain, canoe on the Delaware River, and learn about food harvesting and meal preparation at Hilltop Hanover Farm. Next week, the entire grade will come together to adventure on a ropes course!
During these retreats, students are not only fostering connections with their peers, but also laying the foundation for their 8th Grade Capstone program, where students explore the question, “As a member of both my local and global community, what is my role in building a just and sustainable future?” More photos.

SENIOR SPEAKERS
Congrats to this year’s second round of Senior Speakers, Asher D. and Rahul R.! Asher guided us through “a book about Asher” from childhood, and talked about the journey of becoming more passionate about writing, even planning to major in writing at college, and thanked the Berkeley Carroll faculty who pushed Asher in their writing.
Adapting a unique approach to a senior speech, Rahul opted to solve a complicated calculus problem for the audience, but with brief interludes to highlight the absurdity of astronomers’ telescope-naming capabilities or share a fun fact about rabbits’ vocal cords (or lack thereof). |
