Our college counselors have extensive experience in college admissions counseling as well as teaching.

Carolyn Middleton, our Director of College Counseling, came to Berkeley Carroll in 2016 with nearly 25 years in college admissions, advising, and counseling, having served most recently as Director of Admissions at Barnard College (NY). In addition to her prior experience in admissions at the University of San Diego (CA), Boston University (MA), and St. Mary's College (CA), her work has also included leadership roles in college counseling at two secondary schools, Colorado Academy (CO) and Sacred Heart Preparatory (CA). She also ran the academic advising center for first-year and sophomore students at Columbia University (NY). Carolyn earned her BS from Boston University (MA) and her EdM in Higher Education from Harvard University (MA).

Khaliah Williams, who joined the staff in 2015 as both College Counselor and a member of our English department, served as an the Director of Multicultural Recruitment at Sarah Lawrence College (NY), her alma mater, and an Assistant Director of Admission at Eugene Lang College of the New School for Liberal Arts (NY), before getting her MFA from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop (IA). Her counseling experience, prior to Berkeley Carroll, includes five years as a College Counselor at the Friends School of Baltimore (MD). Khaliah is also a writer of fiction and has published her short stories and nonfiction at the Hawaii Women’s Journal, Frontier Psychiatrist, Buzzfeed Book Country, Day One, American Short Fiction and Day One Year One Best New Stories & Poems 2014. Khaliah is a fellow at the Kimbilio Center for African American Fiction and serves on the Writers In Baltimore Schools Advisory Board.

Luis Almonte, who joins the staff in 2019, comes to Berkeley Carroll most recently from New York University (NY) where he advanced diversity initiatives for the admissions office and worked closely with students and families both from New York City as well as Mexico and Central America. Prior to NYU, Luis worked for the admissions office at Lehigh University (PA) where he read applications from the Berkeley Carroll School. The College Office team is extremely excited about the expertise Luis will bring with an MA in Counseling Mental Health and Wellness from New York University (NY). Luis is eager to be an active member of the school community.

As experienced educators, our counselors approach the college process as an opportunity for growth and learning. Operating according to the philosophy that “college is a match to be made, not a prize to be won,” the counselors work one-on-one with students and their families to help them discover the best colleges and universities to fit their strengths and goals, and to submit applications that reflect their best, most distinctive qualities. Collectively, they bring nearly 50 years of experience in higher education to their work with Berkeley Carroll families.

Over the last five years, Berkeley Carroll seniors have been admitted to 280 different colleges and universities. Our graduates’ options have included:
