GOOD MORNING AMERICA: SENIOR HELPS INTERVIEW 'GIRLS WHO CODE' FOUNDER

Congrats to Claire D. '19 who recently appeared on Good Morning America, with Savannah D. '19, and was asked to help interview Reshma Saujani, CEO of Girls Who Code and author of the new book "Brave Not Perfect." Co-host Robin Roberts noted that Claire cofounded our Upper School's popular Girls Who Code co-curricular (with Hannah S. '19 .) She has been committed to coding since 8th grade with her computer science teacher Jason Gaines and co-curricular advisor Meenakumarie Schaffer.

"NEW YORKER" WRITER SPEAKS TO UPPER SCHOOL ON MARTIN LUTHER KING JR.

The Upper School gathered for its annual Martin Luther King, Jr. assembly. This year, students heard from Vinson Cunningham, staff writer for "The New Yorker." Mr. Cunningham spoke about Dr. King's legacy and reflected on Dr. King's "Letter from Birmingham Jail" and its continued importance today.

BC ASIAN AMERICAN ALLIANCE VISITS CHINATOWN FOR LUNAR NEW YEAR
The BC Asian American Alliance along with other faculty and students traveled to Chinatown to visit the Museum of Chinese in America and to eat dim sum to celebrate the Lunar New Year! The group viewed a number of exhibits including the history of the Chinese typewriter and photographs of Chinatown in the 1980's. The trip was organized by AAA student leaders Emily L. '20, Cleo L. '20, and Maya K. '20.

BC LIVING WAX MUSEUM WELCOMES 75 FIGURES THIS YEAR

The annual 8th Grade Living Wax Museum brought Ulysses S. Grant, David Bowie, Michelle Obama, Christa McAuliffe and more to Lincoln Place! Visitors asked  Read about this year's museum, look at photos, or view a slideshow of all the political leaders, inventors, artists, sports heroes, and revolutionaries students portrayed.

BC TAKES 1ST PLACE IN ANOTHER SPEECH TOURNAMENT

Congratulations to ten BC students who won the First Place Speech Sweepstakes award last weekend at St. Francis Preparatory School. Moya L. '21, Billie W. '21, and King S. '20 were part of the winning team, along with the following individual award winners: 

 

Ruby S. '21 (1st Place Declamation), Luke E. '21  (2nd Place Declamation), Caleb D. '21 (3rd Place Declamation),  Aidan K. '21 (2nd Place Dramatic Performance). Skye K. '19 (3rd place Original Oratory), Yazan B. '22  (4th place JV Extemporaneous Speaking) and Renate B. '20 (5th Place Oral Interpretation).

ATHLETICS 

Winter season is coming to an end!  Congrats to JV Boys Basketball who clinched the regular season title and earned a bye into the semifinal round of the championships next Wednesday at the Athletic Center (4:15pm). Varsity Boys Basketball's schedule is still to be determined (info will be posted on our website). Girls JV Basketball will play in the AAIS Quarterfinals on Monday; with our likely opponent being Marymount.  

 

Boys Varsity Swimming wraps up their season today at the ACIS Championship Meet and Girls Varsity Swimming will finish next Thursday with the AAIS Championship Meet.  Read Dick McGrath's previews for Upper School teams and Middle School teams.

SENIOR SPEAKERS

Congratulations to the latest Senior Speakers! (L-R Sara A-M., Mosab H., Eric P., and Audrey W.)  Sarah A-M. discussed her hearing loss and the appreciation she's found for both her vulnerability and strength while dealing with it. Mosab H. spoke about his love for Times Square, where he can imagine his dream of someday becoming a Broadway star.

 

Eric P. marveled at how things have changed since he first entered Lincoln Place and share his gratitude for all his experiences. Audrey W., a dedicated city dweller, described a five year span in her life when she was a suburbanite on Long Island. Read more.
