Thinking about why the Prospect Park stream is so much cleaner than the Gowanus Canal, students studied concepts like water filtration and topography, visited both sites, thought about ways to improve local infrastructure, and then built models illustrating their ideas. LOWER SCHOOL CELEBRATES DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. The Lower School gathered to celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King. Third graders read "Dreams" by Langston Hughes, fourth graders shared their own dreams for making the world a more green and equitable place for everyone, and the third and fourth grade chorus sang a medley of Civil Rights songs. 4TH GRADER PERFORMS AT MUSIC CONSERVATORY Congratulations to fourth grader Juliana '27 who performed at the Brooklyn Music Conservatory's Winter Festival! They heard stories about the famed ghost-story competition between Shelley, Percy Shelley, and Lord Byron, and on display were a range of literary, artistic, and scientific artifacts, including manuscripts of the novel in Shelley's own hand. PREK 3 CONSTRUCTS ICE CAVE This winter, PreK 3 has been studying the hibernation and migration habits of winter animals including polar bears and snowy owls. With the help of Ms. DiLeva, Ms. Connell's students made bird feeders to care for the birds that do not migrate south and constructed an amazing ice cave! 2ND GRADERS BUILD SCALE MODEL OF NYC NEIGHBORHOOD 2nd graders have been thinking a lot about the infrastructure and planning of New York City. After visiting Queens Museum to see a scale model panorama of the city, students used skills from social studies, math, and art classes to build their own scale model of a NYC neighborhood! MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDIES DANGERS OF CHEMICAL DEPENDENCE 7th and 8th graders heard a presentation from the organization Freedom from Chemical Dependence.
