10TH GRADE ANALYZES GENDER ASSUMPTIONS IN POPULAR CULTURAL ITEMS SENIORS LEARN FISCAL LITERACY TO PREPARE FOR COLLEGE LIFE "Beyond BC: Senior Symposiums" is a series of talks, presented by the Office of Alumni Relations, to prepare students for some of the challenges that they will likely encounter in college and adulthood. Financial expert Galia Gachon led the first session on fiscal literacy, sharing with students basic knowledge about such topics as budgeting, credit cards, and credit scores. MIDDLE SCHOOLERS STUDY HOW TO IDENTIFY MISINFORMATION IN THE NEWS & SOCIAL MEDIA It's harder and harder to tell fact from fiction in the news these days, but 8th graders in Mike Wilper's history class won't be so easily tricked. They learned about the psychology behind propaganda and how to identify misinformation on social media. Read the full story. Students put on lab coats and gloves and dug deep into a better understanding of the anatomy of the brain as they dissected sheep brains. PSYCHOLOGY CLUB DISCUSSES MENTAL HEALTH Upper School Psychologist Dr. Karen Kauffmann and the BC Psychology Club recently hosted a panel of mental health experts to share their professional journeys, answer questions, and discuss popular topics in the field including hurdles that face students when looking for mental health counseling, how students can support their friends who are facing mental health challenges, and the importance of finding the courage to open up and, like with any physical disease, not let a mental health issue only get worse by keeping it secret.
