MATH TEAM BRINGS TROPHY BACK TO BC Congrats to the BC Math Team who triumphed against Packer, Poly Prep and Brooklyn Friends to win the Brooklyn Math Bowl and bring the trophy back to BC! Our "Fearless 9" consisted of seniors Eve B., Brendan Z., Charlie W., Diego T., Claire H., Zach T., Graham S., and Noah E. '19 and Will S. '21, with a special nod to team advisors Arata Niizuma and Emily Gorman.
The team faced down challenging mental math questions, a partner round, a relay round, and a final team round in the competition. For the seniors, some of whom have been on the team all 4 years, this makes 3 Brooklyn Math Bowl victories. The team's next competition will be the Brearley Math Bowl on Sat., Feb. 3 at Brearley. (Spectators are welcome and encouraged!) FACULTY WINS GOLD AWARD Lower School Music Teacher, Carolyn Sloan, has gone gold! SECRETS OF OUR SUCCESS: THE LOWER SCHOOL The Lower School is where BC students start building the strong foundation of skills necessary for future success in today's increasingly complex world. The goal is to inspire and cultivate great readers, writers, scientists, mathematicians, and artists; and, yes, students start seeing themselves as such at these young ages.
Learn how we teach reading & writing -- based on the knowledge and experience that one size does not fit all -- in this 5-minute read which is the first of four articles about the Lower School.
With our dedicated faculty who are trained in top assessment programs (including a Language Arts Coordinator & Coach), one-on-one reading evaluations throughout the year for every post-preschooler, writing units shaped by Columbia University's Teacher's College Writers Workshop curriculum, four libraries, a third grade poet-in-residence, and much more, it's no wonder that BC has a tradition for developing strong writers and readers of all ages.
