10TH GRADERS EXPLORE SHAKESPEARE THROUGH DIFFERENT LENSES

Each of our 10th grade English classes has been studying Shakespeare's Twelfth Night from slightly different academic angles. Students recently had a roundtable to share with each other highlights from their essays and discuss themes, passages and acting decisions that each class found added extra meaning to the play.

BC STUDENTS HELP RUNNING CLUB WIN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Congratulations to Leah '25 and Harry G. '27 who competed in the AAU Cross Country Nationals as a part of the Prospect Park Youth Running Club (PPYRC). Leah and Harry ran alongside 1,800 athletes through a very muddy course in Victor Ashe park in Knoxville, Tennessee, but it was worth it as they and their PPYRC teammates took home the national championship title!

MIDDLE SCHOOL MUSICAL DAZZLES AUDIENCES

Audiences have been enjoying a colorful and fantastical treat at this year's Middle School musical, "Once on This Island, Jr." The story is an adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale, "The Little Mermaid," and follows one small girl who finds love in a world of prejudice. The final performance is tonight!  Photos.

ATHLETICS

December is off and running! Read Athletics Director Dick McGrath's updates for Upper School teams and Middle School teams.

SOPHOMORE PRESENTS TO PSYCHOLOGY CLUB

Psychology Club recently welcomed Lauren A. '21, who shared a presentation titled, "Varying Thoughts on Stereotypes." She conducted original research about stereotypes and shared her findings with the club. Last summer, Lauren interned at the GO Project, an award winning non-profit that BC partners with, which has helped more than 5,000 kindergarten through eighth graders who are struggling in under-resourced NYC public schools gain the academic foundation to graduate high school.

LOWER SCHOOL ARTISTS

Lower Schoolers have recently been sharpening their painting, sculpting and drawing skills in Ms. Mastrocola's art classes. First graders created on a number of projects using watercolors, pencils, and oil pastels to create their own drawings that came together like a puzzle to make a larger abstract work.

Second graders studied monochromatic artwork, recognizing the different shades that can exist of just one color. Then, using mirrors, they created "Monochromatic Selfies." Third graders created optical illusion drawings dependent on lines and colors, and then made their own "thaumatropes," 19th century toys that depict two different images that, when spun, appear to be one.

Fourth graders honed their skills in a variety of mediums, including charcoal, pastels, and watercolors, creating beautiful observational drawings and some very lifelike sculptures that look good enough to eat!

SENIOR SPEAKERS
Congratulations to BC's latest Senior Speakers (L-R) Taylor E., Miles P., and Charlie H.! Charlie described the joys of sailing and relaxing on the beach, telling the audience that "just doing something because it makes you happy is the best point of all." As a contrast to her bubbly persona, Taylor shared (tongue in cheek) a few things that annoy her, which include parmesan cheese and out-of-sync animation.

Miles discussed the many challenges he's faced getting to school on time, including once when he was riding his bike to school and traffic cops pulled him over for running red lights.

STUDENTS DISSECT FETAL PIGS IN ANATOMY CLASS
Upper School students in Jessica Smith's Human Anatomy class got up close and personal with many of the organ systems they've been studying this fall!  The students dissected fetal pigs, getting a look at the digestive and circulatory systems and more in the lab.

UPPER SCHOOLERS ATTEND SUMMIT

Upper School students Tamiya F. '19, Zach T. '19, Maddie E. '19, Claire D. '19, Libby T. '19, and Devon G. '20 attended the Georgetown Day School Summit on sexual assault and consent. It was a day full of workshops and speakers that helped students think about these big topics and prepared them to share what they learned with their classmates back at BC.
