8TH GRADE LIVING WAX MUSEUM IMPRESSES GUESTS This year's annual 8th Grade Living Wax Museum brought Alexander the Great, Malcolm X, Malala Yousafzai, Wilbur Wright, Wong Kim Ark, Madam C.J. Walker, Rihanna, Elizebeth Smith Friedman, Harriet Tubman, Genghis Khan, and more to Lincoln Place! To prepare for this beloved Berkeley Carroll tradition, students select a political leader, inventors, artist, sports hero, or revolutionary who changed the world. After reading a memoir, biography, or autobiography, they then adapt what they've learned into a presentation along with costumes and props. During the gallery walk, students greeted visitors and shared the story of their historical figure's life and work. See the full list of figures students portrayed here. Full photo gallery. |

LOWER SCHOOLERS WELCOME FAMILIES TO DANCE & INTERACTIVE ART INSTALLATION It was another joyful day in the Lower School where families were able to visit campus and see their students' hard work in action! 2nd Graders performed creative, improvisational dance routines, and both 1st and 2nd Graders were able to bring their family members along for an interactive art show in the lobby. The installations on display included the 1st Graders' "Biography Bottles" - 3D models of a public figure who has brought about positive change, designed from recycled bottles. 2nd graders were able to showcase their James Audubon inspired bird sanctuary, with sculpture renditions of various species of American birds also molded from repurposed second hand materials. 1ST GRADERS DEVELOP RECIPES FOR CLEANER OCEANS & MEET THE PLASTIC BAGMAN Plastic plastic are you so fantastic? First Grade shouts,"no!" As part of a collaborative trash unit in STEAM-brary (Science, STEAM & Library), first graders created recipes for cleaner oceans. In the above photo, can you identify the 3 key ingredients to help clean up our beautiful oceans? They also met Brooklyn's very own Plastic Bagman Taylor Mali, inventor of The Snatchelator, which helps keep neighborhood trees free of stray plastic bags. The STEAM-brary's many eco-friendly activities this year included challenging students to build their own trash collecting inventions and write poems in support of protecting the environment. |

SENIOR SPEAKERS Congratulations to our latest round of Senior Speakers, Leo I., Tristan C., Samantha R., and Asa K.! Leo shared a story about a family trip to the Israel-Jordan border, and invoked the wisdom of the idea that "difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations", comparing it to the journey of the ups-and-downs of high school. Tristan took the audience on a visual history of some past "cringy" fashion faux pas, while honoring some as still being important steps towards personal style and self-expression. Samantha shared the experience of coming to BC as a Bronx native and feeling like a fish out of water at first. However, a few forced introductions to classmates by teachers led to close friendships and opening up to others about experiencing imposter syndrome led Samantha to realize everyone else is figuring it out as they go, too. Asa reflected on how much Asa has changed since first beginning at BC in ninth grade, and how living a life focused less on the thoughts and feelings of others has led to better self-understanding. |
