HUNDREDS OF RUNNERS PARTICIPATE IN THE MIDDLE SCHOOL'S FIRST-EVER 5K RUN
And they're off! Nearly 300 BC students, faculty, and staff ran, walked, and cheered at the first-ever Berkeley Carroll Middle School 5k Fun Run! The 5th-8th graders' training began back in early February as part of Heart Health Awareness Month, and their hard work really showed at this community event. Top finishers by grade: Lionel D. '29; Daphne S.M. '28; Sam F. '27, Augie B. '26, with Sam, Lionel, and Miles F. '27 finishing Top 3 overall.
3RD GRADER PUBLISHES HER FIRST SHORT STORY
Congratulations to 3rd grader Stella '31 who is officially a published writer! Stella's short story "Tommy's Winter Adventures" was just published in "The Parenthetical," an online forum for young writers. Way to go, Stella!
SENIOR SPEAKERS
Congrats to our latest group of Senior Speakers, Eve K., Alex L., and Charis B., who dazzled everyone with their speeches! Eve spoke about how putting together a dependable adult support team brought about positive changes in the education experience. Alex shared the story of boldly entering a pickle crunch contest at the age of 7 and how winning the event inspired the discovery of new opportunities and other special hidden talents. Charis shared how growing up "living in the shadows" of two older siblings challenged Charis to find new, and now beloved, experiences and interests.
MIDDLE SCHOOLERS PUBLISH "THE LINCOLN PLACE JOURNAL"
Congratulations to Middle School students on the publication of the latest issue of The Lincoln Place Journal! As part of their newspaper elective, students research and write stories relevant to their peers. In this issue of the paper, reporters wrote film reviews, highlighted the Middle School 5K, interviewed Nurse Nancy, and even created comics.
UPPER SCHOOL STUDIES AWARD-WINNING "FIVE YEARS NORTH" DOC & HAS Q&A WITH CO-DIRECTOR
The Upper School hosted a screening and Q&A with the director for the documentary 'Five Years North," a coming-of-age story of an undocumented Guatemalan boy who just arrived in New York City and struggles to work, study, and evade the Cuban American ICE officer patrolling his neighborhood. After the film, students discussed the issues of poverty, immigration, and mental health with Chris Temple, one of the film's directors.
