"BC TALKS" DISCUSSES SOCIOECONOMIC CLASS, EDUCATION AND SOCIETY
The Upper School's latest BC Talks focused on socioeconomic class, education, and society. Writer, actor, and educator Steven Tejada performed a 30-minute excerpt from his one-man show, Boogie Down Journeys, about the perspective of a South Bronx teenager seeing his friend go off to attend a private college in Connecticut.
Attendees then chose from 17 workshops led by BC faculty and students on topics like "The Cycle of Gentrification and Displacement in NYC", "The Effects of Socioeconomic Class During The Pandemic," "Appreciation vs Appropriation: When Culture and Creativity Collide", "The American Middle Class: What Is It, Who's In It, and How's It Changing?", and "Pay Inequalities, Gender and Race."
As a special treat, 8 BC alumni participated in a virtual roundtable that connected their experiences at BC to the wider world.
