5TH GRADERS ADD NEW SPIN TO THIS YEAR'S EGYPTIAN TOMB: MINECRAFT

This year 5th graders added an exciting, new dimension to the annual "Egyptian Tomb" milestone project where they demonstrated their expertise and knowledge of Ancient Egypt. The exhibit featured their handmade artifacts and artwork, as well as presentations of entire Ancient Egyptian worlds created using Minecraft Edu. Students became tour guides for 8th graders, taking through the museum to showcase the artifacts, collage art, and mummified samples. Photo gallery.

SPEECH & DEBATE TEAM SCORES AT LOCAL & NATIONAL TOURNAMENTS

More kudos for BC's Speech & Debate program! Upper School students had strong showings this year at local tournaments (in Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens leagues as well as Princeton) and national online tournaments in Minnesota, Texas and Illinois, where Alexa B. '24 and Oliver K. '24 represented BC. Special congrats to Daniela H. '25 (pictured) who earned the team's first full qualification for the State Championship tournament which will take place in April.

And, at the Middle School level, more than 30 students attended their first debate tournament at the Brooklyn Debate league!

VARSITY SWIM TEAMS HAVE STRONG START TO THE SEASON

CHEMISTRY STUDENTS INVESTIGATE EMISSION SPECTRA OF FIREWORKS

Upper School Advanced Chemistry students donned PPE for the flame test lab where they investigated the chemistry of fireworks. By burning different samples of salt solutions, they were able to see that each element has a unique burning profile. These profiles are called "emission spectra" for the characteristic color of light that is emitted when electrons fall down. They then played the part of investigators and tried their hand at identifying the contents of an unknown solution.

LEARNING LUNCH DISCUSSES COMMUNITY-BASED ALTERNATIVES TO POLICING

Students met for a learning lunch with Dr. Alex Vitale to discuss his book 'The End of Policing.' He detailed community-based alternatives to policing. Students asked questions about police presence in schools and law enforcement's role in drug offenses.

MIDDLE SCHOOLERS EXCHANGE FAVORITE RECIPES

Middle School student affinity groups worked together to create a recipe collection made up of meaningful recipes. Students wrote, shared, and decorated a special recipe from home.
