WINTER ATHLETICS SEASON BEGINS Congrats to our Boys Varsity and Boys JV Basketball teams who won convincingly at Saint Ann's in their season opener. Our Girls Varsity Basketball team battled back in the second half of their home debut with Saint Ann's in a game that came down to the wire. Next week, our Varsity Swim teams will begin their competitive season. Not to be outdone, Middle School students are showing tremendous interest and enthusiasm with nearly 200 athletes participating in our basketball and swimming programs. BC STUDENT PERFORMS DANNY ELFMAN CLASSIC (VIDEO) & EARNS HIS KUDOS ON OUR INSTAGRAM Juliana M. '27 played "This Is Halloween" from The Nightmare Before Christmas by award-winning composer Danny Elfman on piano for the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music's Suzuki Halloween concert. It is a tricky piece - there are over 20 key changes! Danny Elfman himself ran across the video of her performance on our BC Instagram and left a comment for Juliana saying he was 'Super impressed. Well done!" |

SENIOR SPEAKERS (PART ONE) Congrats to our latest Senior Speakers, Grace F., Brian Y., and Mac F.! Grace shared how obsessions, whether they are tv shows, music, or garlic knots, are things people should experience because of the joy they bring. Brian spoke about how visiting family in Taiwan over the years has yielded important life experiences, recounting daily routines there and how they compare to daily life here. Mac spent the past summer as a camp counselor and warned of the exhaustion of taking care of 7-year-olds 24/7, but was luckily still able to find enjoyment in the chaos. |

VIDEO: 3RD GRADERS SING BC'S TRADITIONAL "THANK YOU" SONG In this challenging year, our BC community has a lot to be thankful for. The traditional school-wide Thanksgiving assembly was conducted at the divisional levels last week, with student and faculty speakers and musical entertainment, including the 3rd grade's annual performance of the "Thank You" song as performed here at the Lower School's assembly. |

SPANISH CLASSES HAVE FUN LEARNING AFRO-CUBAN & AFRO-PUERTO RICAN DANCES (VIDEO) Performer TaDeo Asojano from Cumbe (Center for African and Diaspora Dance) taught dances to several 11th and 12th grade Spanish classes. Mr. Asojano is a dancer, singer, drummer and actor who specializes in Afro-Cuban and Afro Puerto-Rican folkloric and popular dance. |

STUDENTS LEARN ABOUT THE HOLOCAUST FROM A SURVIVOR & MUSEUM VISIT Students in the Upper School's Holocaust and Human Behavior course have been diving deep in their studies. First they welcomed author and educator Dr. Dori Katz, who spoke about surviving the Holocaust as a young child after her mother made the wrenching decision to place her into hiding with a Catholic family and an orphanage. Then the class joined our World War II class on field trip to the Museum of Jewish Heritage to view a Holocaust exhibit. |

SENIOR SPEAKERS (PART TWO) Congratulations to our Senior Speakers - Ruby K., Simon K-M., and Margot S. '22. Ruby discussed how growing up in a small family can mean getting to select people to include in your chosen family where they can take on important roles in your life. Simon spoke about how a personal hair journey can influence someone's identity and lead to self-confidence. Margot talked about a lockdown obsession, which started as loving a Bradley Cooper movie and turned into finding a way to meet the star in real life. |
