OCTOBER CAMPUS PHOTO GALLERY Check out some scenes from around BC in our October Campus Photo Gallery. Students practice the arts, play chess in the library, work in the lab, and enjoy time outside! DR. JACQUI LEWIS VISITS THE UPPER SCHOOL The Upper School virtually welcomed Rev. Dr. Jacqui Lewis, the first Black or female senior minister at the progressive, multicultural Collegiate Church in Manhattan, who spoke about how courageously taking a bold path to role-breaking kindness can heal the world and break down the "us" vs "them" scenarios that occur in society due to issues and labels like race, ethnicity, religion and political party which reduce our differences to simplistic categories.
Her three steps: people need to love themselves so "love your neighbor as yourself" means something (she says we are not taught to love ourselves); love your posse; and love the world, which is exemplified with everyday acts of kindness and justice. 2ND GRADERS LEARN MATH THROUGH REAL-LIFE SCENARIOS BC students explore STEAM principles hands-on. For example, our 2nd graders are learning subtraction strategies through real life scenarios. Students solve story problems and show their thinking. They use manipulatives and compare quantities as they find the difference between the number of cubes and the number of students in the class. LEARNING LUNCH DISCUSSES JUSTICE ISSUES IN DOMESTIC ABUSE CASES At this year's first Learning Lunch, Emmy Award-winning film and TV director Elizabeth Rohrbaugh spoke about her documentary "The Perfect Victim," which follows three women in Missouri State prison under unjust sentences for killing their abusive husbands. BC's Learning Lunch program welcomes a wide variety of speakers from inside and outside our school community to talk about local, national and global issues and events throughout the year JAZZ TRIO HOLDS MASTERCLASS FOR BC JAZZ ENSEMBLE BC welcomed The Joel Frahm Trio for a performance and masterclass.
