9TH GRADE CELEBRATES NY@NIGHT The entire 9th Grade class had a blast during their first NY@Night event! Students had the boat all to themselves for a night of dancing, connecting with classmates, and sight-seeing. SENIOR SPEAKERS Congratulations to our first Senior Speakers of the 2021-22 school year, Amna T. '22, Weezie W. '22, and Tess G. '22! Alma spoke to lessons learned during remote classes, as well as her affinity for the tv show "BoJack Horseman," and how they have shaped her new appreciation for engagement inside and outside the classroom at BC.
Weezie shared his family's special connection to shark diving, the effort that went into becoming certified as a diver himself, and the wonderful relationship he has formed with one of the ocean's most exciting species. Tess spoke about how building a strong relationship with herself has led to real confidence and how that was reinforced by her experiences at the Island School, including camping on the beach during a tropical cyclone. BC FACULTY MEMBER PUBLISHES ARTICLE ON NATIONAL BLOG ABOUT HOW TO BRING TECHNOLOGY INTO THE CLASSROOM Technology is an important part of BC's library curriculum, where students learn everything from email etiquette to online research skills! Middle School Technology Integrator Manuela Aronofsky shared some of the ways she brings technology into the classroom everyday at BC in a recent blog post for the American Library Services for Children website. Check out some snapshots from the latest Girls Varsity Soccer team's game. 4TH GRADERS LEARN WHY IT'S IMPORTANT TO BE AWARE OF YOUR DIGITAL FOOTPRINT 4th graders in Ms. Stauber and Ms. Zamudio's Research class learned all about digital footprints and how your online activity affects you and your digital community. NEW FACULTY SPOTLIGHT To kick off the school year, we'll be introducing you to some of our new faculty members! SOPHIE IMAMURA, MIDDLE SCHOOL HUMANITIES & UPPER SCHOOL VISUAL ARTS TEACHER Welcome new Middle School Humanities Teacher and Upper School Visual Arts Teacher Sophie Imamura! A graduate of NYU with a degree in English Literature, Sophie is an artist in addition to being an arts and humanities educator. Her passions include drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, book arts, riding her bicycle, hiking, psychology, and affect theory. A fun fact about Sophie is that she has read every Jane Austen novel! LESLIE-ANN MURRAY, MIDDLE SCHOOL HUMANITIES TEACHER Welcome new Middle School Humanities teacher and Department Co-Chair Leslie-Ann Murray! Leslie-Ann holds a Master of Fine Arts from Rutgers University. Prior to joining BC, she taught for ten years in several different locations, including China, Bangladesh, New Jersey and Massachusetts. Her most recent position was as an English Teacher at Eagle Hill School in Hardwick, MA. When she is not working with her students, Leslie-Ann spends time with her own writing, and she is currently working on her first novel. She has also shared that she makes really good smoothies, and she once interned for six hours at a smoothie shop!
