BC SENIOR NAMED SEMIFINALIST IN NYC THEATER COMPETITION Congratulations to Oscar T. '22 who made it to the semifinals of the Museum of American Theater's "Hear Me Monologue" Showcase! Oscar competed against fellow high school students from around New York City, and his monologue was selected by a panel of jury members including professional theater directors and instructors! The school year just got started and already PreK4 students helped Beeper, a 3 foot robot puppet, take better care of its iPad. Care tips passed onto Beeper included keeping iPads fully charged and away from pets! UPPER SCHOOL DISCUSSES THEIR SUMMER READING WITH 1ST VISITING SPEAKER OF THE YEAR Upper School students and faculty read science fiction author Octavia E. Butler's "The Parable of the Sower" over the summer and will be holding a series of events to deeply examine the book together. To kick off the series, they welcomed Dr. Susana Morris, an associate professor of Literature, Media, and Communications at the Georgia Institute of Technology, who spoke about her work writing a biography about Ms. Butler.
NEW FACULTY SPOTLIGHT To kick off the school year, we'll be introducing to some of our new faculty members! JULIE MOON, UPPER SCHOOL HUMANITIES TEACHER Ms. Moon earned her MFA in Nonfiction Writing and Literary Translation at Columbia University, where she also got her BA in Psychology. As a graduate student, she taught academic writing to undergraduates and studied Korean history. Prior to that, Ms. Moon taught creative writing as an Iowa Arts Fellow at the University of Iowa's Nonfiction Writing Program. She will be advising 9th graders and teaching English and History to 9th, 10th, and 12th Graders. HARMONY BIRCH, UPPER SCHOOL LIBRARY ASSISTANT Ms. Birch is currently in the School Librarianship program at Rutgers University, a graduate assistant at the Rutgers New Brunswick libraries, and a Schoen Research Fellow. Before pursuing librarianship, she was a local journalist primarily in the Berkshires and Southern Vermont regions. She is particularly interested in digital source evaluation!
