BC RECOGNIZED AS "BEST IN HIGH SCHOOL THEATRE NATIONWIDE" The International Thespian Society, consisting of 5000 member schools, has just chosen BC's original play "The Hope Project" as 1 of only 13 high school productions in the country to play on the mainstage at their 2021 virtual festival. (Famous ITS alumni include actors Tom Hanks, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Val Kilmer.) Read the announcement.
"The Hope Project" premiered this fall and takes the audience on a journey across America through the voices of real people, including doctors, teachers, and activists, to reflect on the major events of 2020 as they move from fear to hope. BC students wrote the script based on the interviews they conducted in collaboration with playwright Daniel K. Isaac. Congrats to the students and faculty in our Theater program! LOWER SCHOOLERS CELEBRATE THEIR INVENTIONS & POEMS First graders embarked on a collaborative unit between Science, STEAM, and Library classes that studied the important environmental issues of garbage and recycling. They explored how to sort recyclables, how to compost, the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, and the landfill model and viewed several inventions that help clean and reduce waste. Highlights included meeting the poet and inventor known as Brooklyn's Plastic Bagman (Taylor Mali) who shared his garbage-picking invention, the Snatchelator and recited some of his poem to inspire them.
Students then had the opportunity to design invention prototypes of tools to help pick up trash and composed original poems of their own. Learn more.
