LOWER SCHOOLERS CELEBRATE NATIONAL POETRY MONTH WITH OUR POET-IN-RESIDENCE Our 2nd and 3rd Graders finished their recent poetry unit just in time for April's National Poetry Month! During their end of unit celebration, 2nd Graders shared beautiful odes to spring at their publishing party, while 3rd Grade's long standing "Poetry Cafe" went virtual, with students reading the poems they worked on with poet-in-residence Susan Karwoska for friends and family online. SARA TOBIAS '18/ MIDDLEBURY '22 FEATURED IN "WOMEN IN BASEBALL" SERIES BC Alum Sara Tobias '18 was recently featured in a three-part series on Women in Baseball in Vermont's Addison County Independent newspaper! Read about Sara's success on the diamond. STUDENTS USE STEAM SKILLS TO BUILD PROTOTYPES OF NATIVE AMERICAN HOMES 3rd Graders embarked on a fun STEAM engineering challenge to design a Suitable Structure! Inspired by their social studies unit learning about Native American history, students researched different types of Native American homes, made connections to modern buildings and architecture, and considered how the environment, climate, function, and need impact the way a house is built. Then they designed and built their own structures! MIDDLE SCHOOL WELCOMES ACCLAIMED ARTIST & EDUCATOR NAIMA GREEN As part of the Middle School's guest artist speaker series, 5th and 6th graders welcomed artist and educator Naima Green, whose work has been shown at MoMA, the National Gallery of Art and other world class museums. (The visit was a homecoming of sorts for Ms. Green, who taught at BC for several years!) She discussed how identity has shaped her artwork and shared two of her recent projects, "Jewels from the Hinterland" and "Pur•suit," as examples of how art can be a vehicle for social change. SENIOR SPEAKERS Congratulations to our latest Senior Speakers, Nichole F. '21, Callan M. '21, and Antonio D. '21!
