MIDDLE SCHOOLERS CREATE "STATUE OF LIBERTY" MOSAIC FROM RUBIK'S CUBES Check out this amazing Rubik's Cube mosaic of the Statue of Liberty created by Middle School students Oskar B. '26, Jada S. '26, and Julia C. '26! These talented 7th Graders have entered their project in the "You Can Do the Rubik's Cube" mosaic contest, competing against students from all over the United States and Canada. Voting takes place now through April 30, so make sure to visit the contest's online photo album and "like" Oskar, Jada, and Julia's stellar work here or vote through Google Form here. SENIOR SPEAKERS Congratulations to our latest Senior Speakers, Ashley A. '21, Eden W. '21, Youssef E. '21, and Aidan K. '21! Ashley shared how she took up a new challenge by becoming vegan and brought the audience through a step-by-step demonstration on making a favorite dish. Eden reflected on the idea of mindfulness and his efforts to learn to meditate. Although he found a world of meditation videos online, he found the most comfort walking around his quiet neighborhood streets.
Youssef discussed how he finds competition the best way to get to know someone's true character and how he has built some of his deepest relationships over the chess board. He described the game as a magical way to communicate with your friends. Aidan creatively used his deep love for Pixar movies, specifically "Inside Out" a film that explores the various emotions inside of people, to showcase how he views life. UPPER SCHOOL LEARNS ABOUT THE HISTORY & TRADITIONS OF RAMADAN To celebrate the start of Ramadan, students and faculty heard from Amna T. '22 about the history and traditions of the Muslim holy month during Learning Lunch! Ramadan is observed by Muslims worldwide and is a time of fasting, reflection, spirituality, and self-betterment. Amna shared some of the history of the holiday, her favorite parts of the month, and ways to support the Muslim community during Ramadan! UPPER SCHOOL TALKS ABOUT THE FUTURE OF THE ENVIRONMENT During the latest BC Talks, Upper School students and faculty discussed the environment. Guest speakers included Eric Goldstein, a senior attorney and New York City Environment Director with The Natural Resources Defense Council, who talked about NYC's environmental history and future, and Dr. Tok Michelle Oyewole, Policy and Communications Organizer at the New York City Environmental Justice Alliance, who discussed her own career path and options for students to get involved in the field. Students and faculty led a variety of workshops on topics ranging from the fashion industry's impact on climate change to the environmental justice movement.
