ALUM INTERVIEWED BY NBC-TV ABOUT WINNING LIN-MANUEL MIRANDA SCHOLARSHIP AT WESLEYAN Brianna Johnson '20/Wesleyan University '24 was interviewed by NBC-TV in Connecticut about winning the 2020 Hamilton Prize for Creativity! The prestigious award, which comes with a four-year, full tuition scholarship to Wesleyan, was established in honor of Wesleyan alum Lin-Manuel Miranda and his award-winning Broadway musical, "Hamilton." Brianna shared how "Hamilton" has inspired her own artistic work and what it was like when she found out she had won the prize. JAZZ ENSEMBLE PLAYS FIRST FULL IN-PERSON REHEARSAL OF THE YEAR The Jazz Ensemble recently enjoyed their first full in-person rehearsal of the year which took place in the Lincoln Place gym! Listen to a snippet of them performing "25 or 6 to 4" by Chicago. 5TH GRADERS PREPARE FOR BC'S FIRST EVER VIRTUAL EGYPTIAN TOMB 5th graders have been hard at work preparing for the first-ever BC Virtual Egyptian Tomb, a new take on the beloved longstanding Middle School tradition! From exploring the ecology of the Nile River to learning about mummification, they spent the past week working in small groups to research their presentations. This year students also had the chance to virtually meet with two experts in the field, ancient art historian Alexander Nagel and urban archeologist and BC parent Jessica MacLean, and ask them questions about their presentation topics They finished the week with a fun virtual "Escape the Tomb" activity! MIDDLE SCHOOL PHYS ED PHOTO ALBUM Our Middle School athletes have found lots of fun and creative ways to stay active this winter during PE, playing games and honing their skills indoors and outside, from the gym in Lincoln Place to the fields of Prospect Park! ALUMNI PANEL ON HEALTHCARE Alums Jada Hudson '13, Charlotte Pierce '14, and Jimmy Council '16 returned to BC (virtually) to speak to students and parents about their healthcare careers! Dr. Hudson is a psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner and completed both her Master of Science in Nursing and Doctor of Nursing Practice degrees at Columbia University School of Nursing; Ms. Pierce is a first year medical student at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai; and Mr. Council recently completed his undergraduate degree in Biology at NYU and is applying for medical school while working as a Clinical Pathology Lab Associate at the North Shore University Hospital on Long Island.
The panel was moderated by BC parent and Trustee Christina Beverage, who is a clinical nurse specialist; panelists spoke about their passion for helping others, the challenges and rewards of working in healthcare, and how their time at BC inspired their career choices.
