COLUMBIA SCHOLASTIC PRESS ASSOCIATION AWARDS GOLD MEDAL TO BC STUDENT MAGAZINE Once again, the Upper School's art and literary magazine "Reflections" has been awarded a Gold Medal by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association! With judges praising this issue for its "stunning artwork, thought-provoking and powerful pieces of fiction and personal essays," the 2020 issue of Reflections also received All-Columbian honors in Visual and Essential categories, which evaluates elements that make a magazine reader friendly.

NEW YORK TIMES BEST-SELLING AUTHOR ADDRESSES THE UPPER SCHOOL ABOUT FINDING JOY During the Upper School's latest BC Talks, students and faculty discussed finding joy! Poet Ross Gay, author of "The Book of Delights," gave the keynote address and read several of his poems on finding delight in life's small moments.
Students and faculty then led a wide range of workshops focused on a variety of ways to find joy, from outdoor walks discovering beauty in nature, to finding joy in the kitchen through several different baking projects, to a virtual dance class with professional dancer Reggie Gray. The day concluded with everyone getting out of their seats and moving with performance artist Ayana Evans! DISABILITY RIGHTS ACTIVIST FROM NETFLIX'S "CRIP CAMP" FILM SPEAKS TO STUDENTS The first Learning Lunch of 2021 welcomed disability rights activist Judy Heumann! Ms. Heumann, one of the leading advocates of the disability-rights movement and who recently starred in the Netflix documentary film, "Crip Camp," was joined by author Kristen Joiner to discuss their recent book, "Being Heumann: An Unrepentant Memoir of a Disability Rights Activist."
In addition to speaking about her long history as an activist, including helping to get passed the 1990 Americans with Disabilities Act and serving as a special adviser on International Disability Rights for the U.S. under the Obama administration, Ms. Heumann also talked about growing up in Brooklyn and her work with young people around disability rights. HAPPY PAJAMA DAY WITH OUR KINDERGARTEN Kindergarten students had a blast during Pajama Day! Besides getting to come to school in their favorite pjs, students made pancakes, had a dance party, and made their stuffed teddy bears! Photos. Highlights include a look at college admissions during a pandemic by Moya L. '21, an essay on restorative justice by Asa K. '22, and a reflection on BC's fall athletic season by Sam O. '22. BIOLOGY STUDENTS SHARE RESEARCH FINDINGS ON CIRCULATORY & RESEARCH SYSTEMS Each year, 9th grade biology students study a disease of either the Circulatory or Respiratory Systems! From pneumonia to asthma to Cystic Fibrosis and more, students virtually shared their individual research findings with classmates. UPPER SCHOOLER RECORDS CHILDREN'S BOOKS FOR LOWER SCHOOLERS Noa B.' 22 recorded readings of several young children's favorites like Click, Clack, Moo and The Dot?
