BC WELCOMES THE START OF WINTER BREAK AT 3 CANDLE LIGHTING CEREMONIES BC welcomed the start of Winter Break after a successful first semester at 3 virtual divisional Candle Lighting ceremonies! In the Lower School, faculty read student hopes and wishes for the new year and Head of School Dr. Lisa Waller lit a candle for each grade.
In the Middle School, Isabel C. '28, Lexi S. '28, Molly G. '27, Sydney R. '27, Mark Z. '26, Austin F. '26, John P. '25, and Leah B. '25 lit candles for their grades, the Orchestra and Jazz Band performed, and Middle School Humanities Teacher Mike Wilper gave the faculty address. In the Upper School, senior advisory groups lit candles and students and faculty performed a variety of holiday songs as part of their new tradition, "One BC"! 4TH GRADER PERFORMS THIS MONTH WITH BROADWAY STARS Congratulations to 4th grader Zoe '29 who is appearing alongside Broadway stars in 2 productions this month! She appeared with members of Broadway and Radio City Music Hall in the Broadway Star Project Family's Holiday Special, and then joined an all star cast for a full length virtual production of "Annie"! BC FALL ATHLETICS: THE HYBRID APPROACH During hybrid learning this fall, student athletes continued to hone their skills individually and with their teammates and coaches in a variety of locales – from the roof of Lincoln Place to the fields of Prospect Park to their own living rooms!
BC was one of the few schools in NYC to offer both virtual training sessions and In-person practices, and students and coaches loved getting the chance to work with and compete against one other. Thanks to all the coaches and to the Middle and Upper School students for their commitment to their soccer, volleyball, cross country, and swim teams! UPPER SCHOOL ROCKS SPIRIT WEEK Thanks to the BC Spirit Squad for leading a fun and energetic Upper School Spirit Week! Students and faculty showed off their super fandom, came dressed in disguises, pajamas, and as their favorite fictional characters, and even brought their pets in on the fun! SENIOR SPEAKERS Congratulations to our latest Senior Speakers, Billie W. '21 and Lauren A. '21! Billie shared how the acclaimed photographer Nan Goldin has inspired her own artwork, and told the audience that it is important to not only find something or someone that inspires you but to also put that inspiration into your work.
Lauren has always loved television, and in particular reality television. While those shows can sometimes be maddening, Lauren discussed some of her favorites, including "The Great British Bake Off," which has inspired her own recent culinary innovations. LEARNING LUNCH DISCUSSES HOLIDAY BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS Listen to Upper School Librarian Anna Murphy as she shares some of her favorite books of 2020 at a recent Learning Lunch. She also gives recommendations for books to read over winter break as well as tips for choosing age-appropriate books for holiday gifts! LOOKING FOR A BC EMAIL?
