BC ENVIRONMENTAL ACTION TEAM HELPS PROSPECT PARK TACKLE TRASH FROM INCREASED USE DURING PANDEMIC Trash has become a big problem at parks due to the increased number of people using them and reduced staff members, so the BC Environmental Action Team decided to help out by cleaning up Prospect Park! Thanks to Harry J. '21, Eden R. '22, Siena B. '22, Jude T. '23, and Sophie T. '27 for pitching in!
As part of their mission of spreading awareness about everyday environmental issues, this student club participates in environmental community action; past initiatives include organizing clothing swaps and upcycling workshops and designing and selling sweatshirts made from recycled cotton and plastic water bottles. SENIOR SPEAKERS Congratulations to our latest Senior Speakers, Nate H. '21 and Charlie H. '21! Over his years in the Upper School, Nate has worked hard to build his identity and shared that participating in an Outward Bound program the summer before his junior year pushed him beyond his comfort zone and helped develop a strong sense of self.
Saturday mornings are all about pancakes and jazz for Charlie, who spoke about his passion for jazz music. The great trumpet player Roy Hargrove has been an inspiration for Charlie's own study of the saxophone. MIDDLE SCHOOL MUSICAL DEBUTS ON YOUTUBE ON NOV. 7 AT 7PM Written by award-winning librettist and playwright Jessica Penzias, whose credits include "Hamilton" and "Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella,this year's Middle School musical, "The Show Must Go Online," is about a group of students who take to their computers to create a virtual production and save their drama program. STUDENTS LEARN ABOUT IMPORTANCE OF ART & ADVOCACY The Upper School Girls 2 Women affinity group welcomed BC parent Aly Palmer for a special assembly to discuss her work in organizing an event called Women Take the Stage! The virtual concert and rally commemorated the centennial of the 19th Amendment, which guaranteed women the right to vote. Ms. Palmer spoke to students about the importance of art and advocacy and how more women can amplify their voices in politics. MIDDLE SCHOOLER PERFORMS AT HALLOWEEN THEMED MUSIC FESTIVAL FOLLOW @BCLIBRARIES ON INSTAGRAM In addition to expanding the number of study and research resources for BC students of all of all grade levels, our library team has been working with students and teachers directly, both online and on campus, from American Studies sample walking tours to the Zoom library where Kindergarten "witches" in Ms. Paller and Mr. Ebanks' classroom stirred their cauldrons during a "spooky movement break" for Halloween! STUDENTS DISCUSS THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION Upper School students and faculty virtually gathered to reflect on Tuesday's election, then broke out into discussion groups to talk about issues like local grassroots activism, implications of the election for the LGBTQ+ community, key Senate races, and more!
