4TH GRADERS' RESEARCH IS HELPING TO RESTORE NYC'S OYSTER POPULATION As part of their study of the Hudson River watershed, 4th graders visited Brooklyn Bridge Park to collect data on oyster restoration for the Billion Oyster Project, a non-profit working to restore oyster populations to NYC and help clean waterways.
Students measured oyster growth, counted organisms like fish and sea squirts, and tested the water quality including salinity and temperature. They will share their findings with scientists at the Billion Oyster Project and return in the spring to collect more data and investigate changes! BC PEP RALLY BRINGS DOWN THE HOUSE BC Lions showed their pride at the first Upper School Pep Rally of the year! The Spirit Squad got the crowd excited with contests, games, and prizes, and congratulated all the fall sports teams and their senior leaders for a great season! OLYMPIC ATHLETE/BC ALUM VISITS KINDERGARTEN BC Alum Robb Paller '11 visited with Kindergarten students to talk with them about being an Olympic athlete and training with Team Israel to play baseball in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo! Robb also read students "Take Me Out to the Yakyu," a picture book following one little boy and his grandfathers, one in America and one in Japan, as he learns about baseball! WORLD AFFAIRS BREAKFAST CLUB World Affairs Breakfast Club welcomed former federal prosecutor Katya Jestin to talk about executive power and impeachment. It was a great way for students to learn about how history is being written now, directly from an expert! MIDDLE SCHOOLERS DESIGN SCARVES INSPIRED BY ISLAMIC PATTERNS Middle School Design Elective students recently created beautiful fuzzy scarves inspired by Islamic patterns and sold them during Parent Conferences to raise money for the Arab American Family Support Center in Brooklyn! NY TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR SPEAKS TO UPPER SCHOOL ABOUT MASCULINITY The Upper School Visiting Speaker Series welcomed writer and cultural critic Michael Arceneaux to BC! Mr. Arceneaux is the author of the recent New York Times bestseller, "I Can't Date Jesus," a collection of essays exploring race, sexuality, and family. Students spoke with him and asked questions about the cultural constructs of masculinity and how to dispel gender stereotypes. 2ND GRADERS STUDY NYC IN SOCIAL STUDIES In social studies, 2nd graders learn about communities and study NYC to think about the needs of everyone living here! Students went on a Neighborhood Walk to gain a better understanding of access to resources like transportation and food in nearby Sunset Park. 11TH GRADERS LEARN ABOUT COLLEGE PROCESS BY PLAYING JEOPARDY Upper School 11th graders met with the BC College Office to play a special round of College Office Jeopardy! Students gained insights into everything from the application process to college visits and more. POPULAR KIDS' AUTHOR VISITS LOWER SCHOOL Children's book author Kyle Lukoff visited with Kindergarten and 1st grade friends to read from his award-winning book, "When Aidan Became A Brother!" The story celebrates transgender children and tells the story of Aidan, a trans boy, helping his parents prepare for the arrival of a new baby sibling! BC SUPPORTS TRANSGENDER DAY OF REMEMBRANCE Fifth graders show their support for Transgender Day of Remembrance 2019 ALUM PUBLISHES BOOK ABOUT HER DAD'S NOTES OF INSPIRATION Every morning while they were BC students, alums Joanna Guest '06 and her brother Theo '09 received a note from their father exploring life, love, and growing up.
