HALLOWEEN COMES TO BC Yesterday, students and faculty in all 3 divisions showed off their finest (and spookiest) Halloween costumes. Events included a costume showcase and contest at Lincoln Place and a Lower School celebration of songs, mummy wrapping, with a parade around the block! Photo gallery.

BC ALUM NAMED 'RISING STAR" BY NEW YORK LAW JOURNAL Congratulations to BC Alum Helen Ogbara Reeves '01 who was just named a 2019 New York Law Journal Rising Star! The award recognizes the region's 31 most promising lawyers under 40. A graduate of Harvard College and Columbia Law School, Ms. Reeves is Venture Technology and Emerging Growth Companies counsel at Denton's, the world's largest law firm and was recognized for her work advising startups and growth-stage companies along with her efforts representing diverse venture capitalists, founders, and entrepreneurs. BC FACULTY PRESENTS RESEARCH AT NATIONAL CONFERENCE Middle School Psychologist Dr. Elizabeth Hayward presented the findings of her study on social thinking and executive functioning in adolescents at the biennial Cognitive Development Society Meeting in Louisville, Kentucky!
Dr. Hayward, who is a Research Scientist at the NYU Consortium for Research and Evaluation of Advanced Technologies in Education (CREATE) Lab and an adjunct faculty mentor at the CUNY Graduate Center, highlighted the results in a poster, "Advanced Theory of Mind and Task-Switching in Adolescents with and without Autism Spectrum Disorder," along with colleagues from CUNY including Assistant Professor Bruce Homer. THIS WEEK IN ATHLETICS This week brings the Fall 2019 season to a close. It was an extremely successful season for all the BC teams thanks to the 31 coaches and 261 student athletes who devoted their time and energy to making it all happen.

First graders visited Prospect Park! Students stopped to eat, play, and observe the changing trees on their way to Bartel Pritchard Square to meet with Farmers Dan and Holly! Students practiced their interview skills to learn more about the life of a farmer, and at the end every student got to pick a pumpkin to take home! SENIOR SPEAKERS Congratulations to our latest Senior Speakers! (L-R Cecelia B., Cleo L., Maya K., and Shailee S.) Cecelia B. shared the story of her inauspicious start to summer camp, including a bus seat mate with extreme car sickness and a scramble for candy reminiscent of "The Hunger Games." Cleo L. spoke about her experiences dealing with microaggressions and how she responds to questions related to identity.
Maya K. detailed her family traditions around food and meals, and how she discovered a new love for food at summer camp. Shailee S. told the audience what it was like to move from suburban Virginia to Brooklyn, and detailed the challenges and pleasant surprises of life in the city. BREAKFAST CLUB DISCUSSES DOMESTIC VIOLENCE As part of the World Breakfast Club's conversation for Domestic Violence Awareness Month, students recently welcomed Emmy Award-winning film and TV director (and BC parent), Elizabeth Rohrbaugh, who spoke about her latest film, "The Perfect Victim," which follows three women in Missouri State prison under unjust sentences for killing their abusive husbands. The documentary premiered on PBS and will soon be featured on Netflix. GETTING TO KNOW YOUR BC ADMINISTRATORS We sat down with Lower School Director Amanda Pike, Middle School Director Yabome Kabia, Upper School Director Jane Moore, and Assistant Head of School Brandon Clarke, to learn more about what goes into helping lead Berkeley Carroll! (We even found out what these leaders were like themselves when they were students!)
