BC SPEECH & DEBATE STUDENTS ARE 2ND IN THE NATION Congrats to Noah S. '21, Jordan H. '20, Jake P. '20, and Mosab H. '19 who took 2nd place in in Original Oratory at the Catholic National Championships in Speech and Debate at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, which attracted the best 2,500 speech & debate students in the country. BC CHESS TEAM ARE NYC CHAMPS After their first year of play, the BC Chess Team are champions of the Chess Center of New York's elite Magnus League which includes teams from all 5 boroughs! The squad, led by Sean C. '21, Chris K. '21, Youssef E. '21, Charlie W. '19, and Diego T. '19, scored a stunning upset over Columbia Grammar Prep in the final round of tournament play. NYC RECOGNIZES 5 BC STUDENTS FOR EXCELLENCE IN SPANISH Five BC Middle School students who earned gold medals on the 2019 National Spanish Exam were honored by The American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese for their outstanding performance among all NYC students! Special congratulations to Daniela for achieving a perfect score on the Level 01 exam, earning 1st place among all students in NYC and Top 25 nationally out of 6,000 students who took the exam! MIDDLE SCHOOL MATH TEAM ELECTIVE IS TOP 3 IN NY STATE Congratulations to the Middle School students on the Math Team elective and their advisor Mr. Scordato! They earned a Top 3 finish out of over 20 middle school teams in New York State that competed in the Purple Comet! Math Meet, an international online competition. HONORING BOB VITALO EVENT: PHOTO GALLERY & VIDEO The photo gallery from Sunday's event to honor Head of School Bob Vitalo and celebrate his 13 years of leadership is now up! This standing room only event was attended by more than 400 past and present BC community members and broadcast on Facebook Live. See the photos. 4TH GRADE INSTRUMENT WALK 4th grade musicians were excited to share their knowledge of the orchestra during the annual Instrument Gallery Walk! Classmates, faculty, and parents had a chance to view projects, learn about the history of the instruments, and even try playing them! BC ALUMS TALK TO STUDENTS ABOUT THEIR CAREERS The Upper School Girls II Women Affinity Group welcomed back several BC alums for the annual career panel! The group helped answer and explore questions around how gender, race, and sexuality intersect in the workplace. Oniwa Braithwaite '09, a registered nurse at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (and substitute nurse at BC!), Ada Santiago '09, a preschool teacher at St. Francis de Sales School for the Deaf, and actor Eleanor Pearson '14 were joined by current students, faculty, and alums Francesca Perlov '09, Emily Cornicello '16, and Michelle Madlansacay '16 to talk about their career paths. LOWER SCHOOL SPORTS DAY At Sports Day, Lower School students competed in some fun and collaborative activities! The events were kicked off with a classroom teacher vs. PE teacher tug-of-war, and then students were off to swim, tackle obstacle courses, and run relay races! Photos. MIDDLE SCHOOLERS USE MATH & ART TO STUDY TESSELLATION Art and math combined for some colorful results in the new 6th grade Tessellation Project! Learning the mathematics behind the artist M.C. Escher's "impossible drawings," students designed templates and then made their own tessellations with a variety of artistic mediums! 5TH GRADERS SPACE MISSION SHOWCASE Are we alone in the universe? How do planets change? How did life begin? 5th graders shared their idea for how NASA should go about answering these questions during the Space Mission Showcase! Students shared their models of probes, landers, and robotic rovers for finding the answers about our place in the solar system. 6TH GRADERS TAKE ON SOLVING THE WORLD WATER CRISIS How will we solve the world water crisis? 6th graders shared some of their solutions at their World Water Crisis Showcase, sharing their own inventions to help relieve some of the factors contributing to the problems facing humans and world water supply. LOWER SCHOOL KINDNESS CLUB SENIOR ART SHOW Seniors exhibited ceramics, photography, paintings and more for classmates, faculty, and family at Senior Arts Night! UPPER SCHOOLERS STUDY WORLD RELIGIONS WITH FORMER NAVAL ACADEMY INSTRUCTOR Upper School students in the World Religions course wrapped up their unit on Christianity with a special guest, Father Rudy Casals! A former instructor at the Naval Academy, Father Casals spoke about becoming a priest and answered student questions about theology and history. KINDERGARTEN & PreK STUDY HANDS THROUGH SHADOW PUPPETS PreK and K students were treated to a special performance by shadow puppet artist, Spica Wobbe, who uses mostly recycled materials for her show about hands! BOB VITALO TALKS ABOUT WHAT HE'S MOST PROUD OF StoryCorps recently had a conversation with Bob Vitalo where he discussed what he's most proud of at BC and what makes us special.
