See a list of all our winners. BC RECEIVES PRESTIGIOUS HONOR FOR DEBATE FROM EMORY UNIVERSITY BC has been selected as a Member School of Emory University's Barkley Forum for High Schools! Since 1963, only 268 high schools around the country have been recognized, and BC joins some of the very best school committed to teaching critical thinking, public presentation skills, and top-level research in speech & debate. Congratulations to all the students and faculty involved with the Speech and Debate team! BC CHESS TEAM SOARS TO 2ND PLACE IN NYC LEAGUE The BC Chess Team continues to dominate in their first year of competitive play in the Chess Center's Magnus High School League. The Lions moved up from 3rd to 2nd place (out of 35 teams from all 5 boroughs) and are currently only half point back of 1st place! The squad will look to continue their success in the next round of play this Saturday. BREAKFAST CLUB WELCOMES FORMER NEW YORK TIMES COLUMNIST/AUTHOR World Affairs Breakfast Club welcomed Anand Giridharadas, a former New York Times columnist and author of the book "Winners Take All: The Elite Charade of Changing the World." Mr. Giridharadas spoke about the impact of billionaires on American politics. STUDENTS EXPLORE & DESIGN DIFFERENT TYPES OF LIGHTING Upper School students in Art Teacher Nell Daniel's design class have been tinkering with the idea of lighting. Their challenge was to think about form and function and create environments that would help individuals in a variety of ways. From designing solar panels for someone living in a remote location to a special light for a patient going through chemotherapy who wants a warm meditation space, students combined elements of nature and industrial materials to come up with projects that reflected empathy for the needs of their client. STUDENTS STUDY PICASSO'S "GUERNICA" Students in Mr. Moyano's Spanish IV Advanced class came to Sterling Place to virtually view one of the most important paintings of the 20th century: "Guernica," by Pablo Picasso. Students have been studying the Spanish Civil War, and Picasso's work details the bombing of the small Spanish town on April 27, 1927. To get a sense of the painting's impact, which in real life is more than 11 feet tall and more than 25 feet wide, students got to see the painting in its original size.
