Middle School Admissions

Parents/Guardians must complete the Preliminary portion of the Online Application for Middle School Admission (available September 3, 2024, at 12:00 pm) and submit a $100 non-refundable application fee (The Parent/Guardian statement portion of the application must be completed before the applicant’s interview date.).

We encourage you to apply as early as possible. Berkeley Carroll provides automatic application fee waivers for students from the following programs: 360 Academic and Sports Academy, A Better Chance, Boys Club, Breakthrough New York, De La Salle Academy, George Jackson Academy, Oliver Scholars, Prep for Prep, and TEAK. We share a Common Parent/Guardian Statement form with other ISAAGNY schools. 

Please Note: Submission of the parent statement is required before an interview can be scheduled.

We share the ISAAGNY Common MS Applicant Essay Form and Common Student Interests and Activities Form with other schools.

Interview Part I (Virtual via ZOOM):

Families must submit their applicant's final report card for the '23-'24 school year to be considered for an interview. The admissions team will reach out to families after we have received and reviewed these materials.

All interviews are by invitation only; the most recent report card is required to assess a student's initial eligibility. If a student is not invited initially, their application will be re-evaluated as new materials are submitted. However, students who apply after November 15 are not assured an interview, even if their report card merits an invitation.

All invited applicants will engage in a half-hour one-to-one virtual interview with a member of the BC faculty or the Admissions team. The parent statement must be submitted before the interview takes place.

Interview Part II (In-Person):

Scheduled Group Activity:

Applicants will engage in a 45-minute group activity with a member of the BC Middle School faculty and other prospective students. We will contact families in December regarding registration. This is a required event. We will work with families if there are scheduling conflicts.

Group Activity Dates:

January 14 (Grades 5), and January 16 or 21 (Grade 6) from 2:30 - 4:30 PM

Berkeley Carroll requires applicants to take either the ISEE (Independent School Entrance Exam) or SSAT (Secondary School Admission Test) as part of the admissions process. 

To schedule a testing date, go to www.iseetest.org. or www.ssat.org. 

Important: We recommend registering for the ISEE or the SSAT as early as possible, as dates can fill up quickly.

Test results should be sent to BC through the testing organization using the codes below.

Please contact us if you believe you may qualify for a fee waiver. Fee waivers are offered ONLY to Berkeley Carroll applicants.

Students who qualify for an ISEE fee waiver are eligible for a full-access ISEE prep package from Test Innovators.

Submit the Transcript and Grades Release Form for the 2024-2025 school year to the office of your applicant's current school. Please note that the request for an official school transcript should not be submitted until after the first marking period, as we require grades from the current year. If the applicant’s school does not issue a report card before January 9th, 2025, please contact the Berkeley Carroll Admissions Office with the expected date of the first marking period report card. If the ERB CTP (Educational Records Bureau Comprehensive Testing Program) is administered at the applicant’s school, please include the scores as part of your transcript. Be sure to request these scores from the applicant’s current school. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out to our admissions team.

The ISAAGNY Common Teacher Evaluation Forms can be sent to the applicant's current teachers through Ravenna by entering each teacher's email address. If your school requires paper forms, you have the option to print them directly from Ravenna. Two recommendations are required: one from an English teacher and one from a Math teacher.

For middle school applicants: If their teacher instructs both Math and English, they may complete the recommendation form as the sole teacher, and that will be the only recommendation you need to submit. While you are welcome to provide an additional recommendation from a supplemental teacher (e.g., coach, instructor), it is not required.

The teachers may need time to learn about the students; please wait until after November 1 to request teacher recommendations.
