Senior Scholars
The Senior Scholars Program prepares Berkeley Carroll 12th graders to be responsible researchers, inquisitive citizens and dynamic writers for their lives ahead. This selective and demanding program is designed for students who are interested in pursuing serious scholarly work in the humanities. Students develop their research skills and capacity for philosophical inquiry as they design and pursue a year-long independent project that culminates in a formal written paper and an accompanying public oral presentation. Recent topics include the impact of citizen journalism in the media, the history of surveillance of black Americans, the underrepresentation of women of color in women's magazines and the impact of voter identification laws.
Who Can Apply?
Rising seniors can apply by April of their junior year. Applications will be evaluated on the quality of the written application; on past interest and achievement in the chosen field; and on evidence of capability for sustained independent work.
