5th Grade Space Mission Showcase
-
181 Lincoln Place

Dear 5th Grade Parents:

Since spring break, the 5th graders have been learning about our solar system and our history of exploring it.

As part of this unit, they have proposed and designed their own missions to five places in our solar system where answers to these three open and important questions could be found:

Are we alone? Locations: Enceladus and Europa
How did life begin? Locations: Comets and Asteroids
How do planets change? Location: Venus

This collaborative unit brings robotic programming work from Digital Essentials and model making techniques from Visual Arts together with inspiration and understanding from their science classes.

Each group has built a model of their landing site and a space probe that will conduct science and carry a lander. The lander itself will deposit a rover onto the surface at their location. Their rovers are Lego Mindstorm robots that have been programmed to carry out mission objectives.

Come to hear their insightful ideas and to see their mission models. We invite you to the Space Mission Showcase on Monday, June 3rd, from 9:00 - 10:00am in the cafeteria at 181 Lincoln Place.

We hope to see you there!
